In the present social media revolution, popular social media networks such as Facebook use the word Like, Twitter uses the words Follow, Followers and Following while LinkedIn uses the word Connect. These are social words used to describe the level of engagement with our favourite brands and personalities.
Regarding the use of social media the fact is, there is something that makes a Facebook page record more likes than other pages, there is something about a Twitter account that makes it have more followers than others and there is something about a LinkedIn profile that makes it have more connections than others.
If social media was around in the days of the Old Testament, Daniel is a man who would definitely have much following, record more likes and receive lots of connection requests. The bible says in Daniel was found an excellent spirit. This spirit gave him the ability to understand maths, science and literature. He could also interpret dreams, speak the language of the Babylonians and in all things, Daniel was found to be 10 times better than others. What a profile for his Facebook page, his Twitter and LinkedIn accounts!
Even though he was a foreigner, Daniel the exile from Judah ruled and reigned in Babylon through the excellent spirit and his many skills. When King Nebuchadnezzar asked the master of his Eunuchs to select children of Israel whom he might groom, he was after certain qualities, which were found in Daniel.
He wanted youths still young enough to be trained, He wanted them to be sharp looking; well groomed and well dressed, He needed them to have good minds which could process information quickly, He wanted them to display a variety of skills, He required them to show wisdom in using their skills to achieve results and he wanted them to serve others however they might be needed Daniel 1:4-5.
The King was rather demanding and still wanted more. For instance he wanted his chosen few to be hungry to learn new concepts, to possess inward strengths and values, to be willing team players, to have good people skills and charisma, to possess knowledge in a variety of areas, to have valuable abilities obvious to others, to enjoy influence with others and to be of excellence and high standards Daniel 1:5-19. After his selection and the end of his training, none was found like Daniel because God had given him the ability.
The excellent spirit is the ability from God that makes you to be number one. It makes you to be the best or better than others and it means to be of very high quality or to be unusually good. Rare people with this spirit are often surrounded by envy, jealousy, competition and rivalry. Daniel owing to his sterling qualities had his fair share of trouble from the conspiracy of those who felt threatened by him Daniel 6: 1-17.
Daniel overcame the power of envy, jealousy, competition and rivalry with his heart of humility and devotion to the fear and worship of the almighty God. The God he believed in and served wholeheartedly eventually came through for him, destroyed every conspiracy targeted at him and defeated all his adversaries Daniel 6: 16-24. As God is still the same, he continues to bless his children with the excellent spirit. Dare to be a Daniel? Then follow the instructions of Matthew 7:7. Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.
